Everything you need to know about Evo Visian Implantable Contact Lenses (ICL)

IN THESE TOGGLES YOU WILL FIND THE DETAILS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR

A quick 20–30 Minute Procedure, painless same-day surgery to help you achieve better vision by inserting an additional lens in the eye.

ICL is an Implantable Collamer Lens or Implantable Contact Lens, also known as phakic lenses. EVO Visian ICL is the latest in phakic lens technology, made from collagen-based material that is biocompatible with the natural eye.

EVO Visian ICL offers a variety of other benefits that not all phakic lenses offer. With EVO Visian ICL, the implant can be removed and replaced with an updated version if your prescription changes in the future. Additionally, it protects the inner eye including the macula from ultraviolet (UV) rays, decreasing the possibility of developing cataracts in the future.

EVO ICL treatment is gaining popularity in the refractive surgery field and is often seen as a premium alternative to laser-based corneal surgeries, such as LASIK and PRK. ICL is an ideal vision correction treatment for many patients, including those with high glasses or contact lens prescriptions, as well as for those patients who aren’t suitable for laser vision correction.

Implanting an EVO Visian ICL involves  quick 20–30 minute, painless same-day procedure. The ICL lens is placed directly behind the iris (coloured part if the eye) and in front of your natural lens, helping an eye to focus light correctly onto the retina and giving you crisp, clear vision, free of halos and glare.

Pre-Op Eye Exam

Before you schedule your EVO procedure we will perform a series of standard tests to measure your eye’s unique characteristics for the procedure. Once your consultant determines that the EVO is a good option for you, they will educate you about the procedure and what to expect both during and after the procedure.

Getting Your EVOs

When you arrive for your procedure you will be asked to lie down and your consultant will administer eye drops to dilate your pupils. Local anaesthetic drops will be used to numb the treatment area so you won’t feel anything.

Small Opening

To prepare for the ICL implant your consultant will create one small opening at the base of your cornea to insert the EVO lens. The procedure is painless because of the numbing medication.

Lens Insertion & Positioning

The EVO lens is then folded and inserted through the small incision. Once the lens is inserted the consultant will make any necessary adjustments to ensure proper positioning in the eye.

The treatment area will be covered using an eye patch, and the treatment is complete.

Returning Home

At this point, the procedure is over, and many patients will have improved vision nearly immediately. Your consultant will prescribe more eye drops intended to aid in the healing process following the procedure. You will need someone to drive you home. Your consultant will tell you when your vision allows driving.

Following surgery, you will be closely monitored for a couple of hours in the clinic, then examined by the surgeon and discharged with prescribed eye drops and oral medication.

EVO ICL provides sharp, clear vision with superb results and excellent safety. 99.4% of patients say they would have the ICL procedure again worldwide.

Excellent Night Vision. Many patients achieve excellent night vision with ICL.

Quick Results. Patients can often achieve improved vision immediately following procedure.

EVO Visian ICL is approved to treat a range of myopia (short sightedness) from -0.50 to -20.00 diopters (D) and the toric version lens corrects astigmatism up to 6.00 D in adults 21 – 60 years of age.

Great for Thin Corneas. ICL does not have a minimum cornea thickness requirement, unlike LASIK. Many patients are excluded  from other forms of vision correction because of thin corneas, but not with  ICL.

No Dry Eye Syndrome. ICL may be suitable for people with chronically dry eyes, as the lens it’s is less likely to cause dry eyes symptoms after surgery.

UV protection. The lens provides UV protection for a the natural lens and retina.

Great alternative to laser.  ICL is an ideal solution for those who are not suitable for laser eye surgery.

Quick Procedure & Recovery.  Most procedures are completed within 20-30 minutes or less. With a minimally invasive procedure, many achieve improved vision nearly immediately.

A permanent solution that can be reversed. Over 1,500,000 ICLs have been implanted worldwide with excellent safety record.

A Removable Option. Should your prescription update or if other vision needs arise, if you and your consultant decide, your consultant can simply remove our lens.

Biocompatible material. ICL’s proprietary lenses are made of biocompatible Collamer. That means the lens material works in harmony with the natural chemistry of your eye and body.

EVO Visian ICL has over 20 years of premium ICL performance.

It is natural to have worries about ICL surgery. Here are some precautions you should know about when considering the ICL treatment:

  • Your eyes should not be painful but you may experience slight discomfort after surgery. This can be eased with over-the-counter pain relief.
  • Your vision may be blurry for the first few days. This happens as your eyes heal and adapt to new lenses. Use eye drops as prescribed.
Avoid rubbing your eyes. Gently clean your lids with tissues and cool boiled water.
  • Avoid vigorous movement for the first 24 hours after surgery.
  • Use eye shields at night to protect your eyes while you sleep.
  • Avoid bright sunlight by wearing sunglasses with built-in UV protection.
  • Do not drive unless your doctor has told you it is safe to do so.
  • Avoid swimming and heavy exercising for at least two weeks.

ICL is a safe procedure, but some risks may occur and can cause complications such as:

  • Blurry vision
  • Cloudy cornea
  • Glaucoma
  • Early Cataracts
  • Eye infection
  • Additional surgery
  • Loss of visual acuity
  • Retinal/Iridotomy complications

Who needs EVO Visian ICL surgery?

IF ANY OF THE CHALLENGES BELOW SOUND FAMILIAR OR YOU’RE UNSUITABLE FOR LASER EYE SURGERY

YOU’RE DEPENDENT ON GLASSES AND CONTACT LENSES TO SEE CLEARLY

You’re 21-60 years of age and have a refractive error but do not qualify or have no interest in laser vision correction.

You experience headaches, eyestrain, fatigue and squinting. This concoction of symptoms can make you feel inconvenienced and irritated. Luckily, glasses can correct these common eye problems. But they come at a cost. The constant cleaning, the de-fogging, the breaking, pushing them up, taking them off, leaving them behind, the list goes on.

You may not like the look or feel of your glasses, or avoid certain activities because they get in the way.

Even contact lenses come with their own set of issues; the dryness, the serious risk of eye infection or computer vision syndrome, and that terrifying moment when one gets lost behind your eye.

There’s no disputing that you should be able to see clearly with the eyes you were born with. With modern refractive surgery, we can correct your eye problem safely and effectively, so that you can obtain the vision you were always supposed to have.

How does Evo Visian Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) surgery impact people day by day?

THE BEST THING ABOUT EVO VISIAN ICL SURGERY IS…

YOU HAVE BRILLIANTLY CLEAR VISION WITHOUT VISUAL AIDS

We’ll have corrected your visual error. Everything will be sharp and in focus. You’ll no longer depend on your glasses and contact lenses to see clearly.

YOU FEEL ATTRACTIVE, CONFIDENT AND FREE

Glasses will no longer dictate the way you look or get in the way. Your risk of infection from contact lenses will be eliminated. You’ll have the freedom and motivation to do anything you want.

YOU ARE NO LONGER INCONVENIENCED BY VISUAL AIDS

Right from the moment you wake up, you can check your phone or take a shower without having to reach for your glasses or contacts. You can go out for a run or do some work on your computer without them falling off or harbouring dirt. You can fall into bed after a late-night without having to remove them first.

YOU ARE ABLE TO RECONNECT WITH THE WORLD

Your glasses will no longer dominate your appearance. The people you meet will see you as you really are and will no longer make superficial judgements or evaluations. Your world will no longer be framed and narrower as a result.

YOU CAN REVEAL YOUR TRUE IDENTITY

With so many safe and effective refractive surgery procedures available, it seems ridiculous to rely on a medical device to see clearly. A more spontaneous, fitter and free you is in there, you’ve just got to get off the fence and make it happen.
