Dry eye disease<\/a> is a common condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Tear film lubricates the eyes and is made up of three layers: an oily (lipid) layer, a watery (aqueous) layer, and a sticky (mucin) layer. The three tear film layers are essential for good functioning eyes as they prevent our eyes from drying. Dry eye disease is where insufficient or poor-quality tears are produced. One of the key ways to improve this condition and avoid it causing further damage is by recognising the symptoms of dry eye disease early and seeking treatment from your ophthalmologist.<\/p>\n

Dry eye disease is multifactorial, and the LacryDiag is a device with software completely dedicated to dry eye disease. LacryDiag works by performing four non-contact exams to analyse the ocular surface. It accurately evaluates the three different layers of the tear film (lipid, aqueous, and mucin).<\/p>\n

The four exams use illumination from white, blue, and infrared light sources to analyse each layer:<\/p>\n

1. Interferometry: Diagnosis of The Lipid Layer<\/h3>\n

Quantitative analysis of the volume of the tear. It measures tear meniscus height in mm, taking up to five measurements and averaging for more accuracy.<\/p>\n

2. Non-Invasive Breakup Time: Diagnosis of The Mucin Layer<\/h3>\n

Evaluates tear film stability on the cornea and automatically measures tear breakup time in seconds.<\/p>\n

3. Tear Meniscus: Diagnosis of The Aqueous Layer<\/h3>\n

Measures and assesses the condition of the aqueous layer.<\/p>\n

4. Meibography: Diagnosis of The Meibomian Glands<\/h3>\n

This enables your ophthalmologist to see images of the meibomian glands and quantification of the meibomian glands. It also analyses the meibomian glands using meiboscale.<\/p>\n

All four examinations are completed within four minutes.<\/p>\n
